  • School Procurement Award winner at Education Business Awards 2017

  • 354 m² Schoolhaus® building.

Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) is a not-for-profit multi-academy trust, sponsoring over 30 primary and secondary academies.

OAT was the first academy trust to be given responsibility to manage multiple building projects, initially a programme for nine academies. In order to efficiently procure OAT’s requirement for buildings over the next four years they developed an OJEU framework. The framework was targeted at off-site construction for energy efficient school blocks and is valued up to £5million. We won the tender process through demonstrating how our off-site methodologies and energy efficient technologies bring value for money to our clients whilst providing a state of the art teaching environment.

Ormiston Venture Academy in Great Yarmouth is the first project delivered by ourselves on the framework and is currently in the final stages of completion. This Schoolhaus® has a GIFA of 354m² and consists of 4 classrooms, WC facilities and office accommodation. We are the Principal Contractor and used our in-house design team to incorporate our standardised designs. We liaised with in-house teams and external consultants such as Structural, MEP, ICT and sub-contractors responsible for foundations, scaffolding flooring and decoration and various finishing trades. The project will be completed to the agreed time scale and budget.

Client testimonial

“We envisaged a framework which promoted energy efficiency and quality using off-site construction for the expansion and replacement building requirements within the Ormiston Academy Trust. We were impressed with Net Zero Buildings’ innovative solution. Their buildings encourage cost and energy efficiencies, this combined with the speed of delivery and flexibility of design made Net Zero Buildings the clear tender winner. We are about to take delivery of the first building under the framework and are currently working on several further projects to be completed in 2017. There is a genuine air of excitement from staff and students about using our new teaching spaces and we look forward to working with them over the next few years.”

The layout below shows the scheme at Venture that was designed based
on our 4 classroom standard block, with pre-finished 2D walls and 3D
volumetric cores. This solution maximised off-site manufacturing while
reducing disruption on-site through shorter delivery, install and site
completion times.
